How to use your ring sling

We want you and your little one to be safe. You'll get the hang of it in no time.
Please read through the positioning page, too!

1. For a hip carry, decide on which side you want to carry your child. Put the rings of on the opposite shoulder. The labels should be facing the shoulder.

2. Bring the tail of the ring sling to your front by placing the material diagonally on your back and under your arm. Make sure the fabric of the sling lays flat against your back and is not twisted.

3. Thread the tail of your ring sling through both rings from inside the rings close to the body to out. You are creating the pouch your child will sit in.

4. Separating the rings, thread the tail downwards between the rings, over the top ring and under the bottom ring. Be careful not to twist the fabric.

5. Pull out a little fabric between the rings by pulling each edge downwards and spread it out with your fingers, making sure there are no twists or overlaps.

6. Pull the fabric fully through the rings, spreading the fabric evenly across the rings. Adjust the size and position of the pouch to the size and needs of your child. Start by sizing the ring sling at the top of your hip bone. A bigger child will need this amount of space, a smaller baby needs less. You can increase the size of the pouch by lifting the top ring and pulling material towards your hip. To tighten, pull on the tail below the rings, making sure the fabric is still spread evenly between the rings.

7. The ring sling is now securely threaded and adjusted for size. You are ready for baby!

8. Pick up your child and let them rest against your free shoulder.

9. Hold your child high up on your free shoulder with you free arm. With your other hand, reach up through the bottom of the pouch and lead your child’s feet carefully between the fabric and your body.

10. Sit your child on the sling. Make sure your child is positioned where you want, on either your front or hip and that the sling is gathered in the child’s knee pits. The rings need to be in a high position on the shoulder and in a comfortable place. Adjust the position of your child or the rings if needed.

11. With one arm supporting your child, find the top rail and spread the material up to at least the neck of your child. For a small baby, pull the fabric up to the back of your child’s head.

12. Create a secure seat, making sure there
is fabric tucked up between your body
and wrapping under babies bum (like a hammock for them to sit in). To make a really comfortable carry by making sure the fabric supports your child from knee pit to knee pit and positioning your child’s knees higher than the bum.

13. Start tightening the carry by pulling the slack from the top hem of the fabric, across your child and towards the rings. Make sure your child’s back is supported by your arm until the ring sling is tightened enough to hold the child.

14. Pull the slack through the rings by pulling on the tail of the ring sling. Tighten strand by strand across the width of the sling by pulling on the top hem, the middle parts and the bottom rail in a pattern resembling sun rays. Make sure the ring sling holds your child securely and close to you without over tightening.

15. The rings should be below your collarbone and the fabric away from your neck. Check that your child is in a well supported and comfortable position and that the carry is comfortable for you. Enjoy the closeness of handsfree hugs!
